Overview
Holon Bionics is a brand that produces future-oriented alternative materials through
biotechnology. Moving beyond traditional materials, the brand embraces flexible thinking
to take on challenges, explore new possibilities, and adopts a rational approach in
its pursuit of innovation.
Holon Bionics develops fusion materials that are not limited to a specific industry.
Its materials are used across a wide range of fields, including fashion, automotive,
interior design, outdoor gear, logistics, and manufacturing. The brand also collaborates
with individuals who resonate with Holon’s philosophy, exchanging ideas and exploring
new perspectives for the next generation.
At the core of Holon Bionics is mycelium, an organism that emerges and decays,
interacting with other organisms to become part of a larger living system. The brand
embodies the concept of a “holon”—something that is a whole in itself, while also
being part of a greater whole.
Holon Bionics sees itself as a “subject of relationality”, reflecting on the relationship
between the whole and its parts. By developing and producing new materials,
the brand aims to broaden the foundation for sustainability in future industries
and foster community growth through active engagement with society.
Grounded in the values of network, scalability, and humanity, Holon Bionics provides
sustainable mycelium materials as alternatives to conventional industrial resources,
offering practical solutions to major environmental issues such as carbon emissions
and soil pollution, while presenting new possibilities for the future of human society.

Mission
Through mycelium biotechnology, we provide alternatives
to the environmental crisis and propose a vision
for the future of humanity
Vision
The provision of sustainable mycelium materials
seeks to replace conventional industrial resources globally,
offering solutions to the problems of carbon emissions
and soil pollution.

CEO Im Sung-hyuk has been working in the mushroom and mycelium industry
for 26 years. “Mycelium” grows by expanding and connecting with existing networks,
and forming fabric that can be used as alternative leather.
This material is then cut and shaped into new products like clothing, furniture,
or packaging, etc. It doesn’t just replace traditional leather, it transforms
how we think about materials themselves.
Mycelium grows on its own, creating new possibilities and helping
to solve long-standing problems. At the same time, it eventually breaks down
and returns to nature. It represents both growth and return, transcendence
and cycle. It’s deeply connected with the natural world and larger systems.
Through years of research, CEO discovered this insight and built his company
philosophy around it. Holon Bionics, is named after the concept of the “holon”,
introduced by philosopher Ken Wilber. A holon is something that is both a part
and a whole at the same time. This idea helps us move beyond either-or thinking
and seeing people, nature, and society as interconnected.
In science, mycelium shares this same nature. It is not just one thing,
but something defined by its relationships and connections.
Inspired by this, Holon Bionics creates eco-friendly mycelium-based materials.
The company sees its work not just as product development, but as part of
a bigger chain reaction, encouraging sustainable choices and helping build
a more sustainable future for humanity.
For over 30 years, CEO has worked toward his goal:
“to contribute to people and the planet through agricultural and life sciences.”
Now, through Holon Bionics, he presents a new vision; one that brings humans
and nature into harmony, and supports more sustainable future.
